Tribute band Dark Star Orchestra is known for their spot on recreations of Grateful Dead shows, treating fans to a truly grateful experience. The band often uses that basis to springboard into unique concept shows, including one they have lined up for an upcoming run in New Orleans, LA.

DSO will perform late nights in NOLA during the Jazz Fest season, playing on April 27th and 28th at the Joy Theatre for the occasion. Today, the band has revealed a theme for the first night of the run, recreating a great Dead show from 40 years prior.

The 4/27/77 show came in the middle of a spring 1977 tour, known to fans as one of the Grateful Dead’s best tours ever. Performed at the old Capitol Theater in Passaic, NJ, the 4/27/77 show is known as a gem to fans everywhere, and has survived through a black and white video that was captured. You can watch the full video of the Dead’s original 4/27/77 show below.
