Delaware State Police are investigating after an attendee at this weekend’s Firefly Music Festival found human skeletal remains in the area surrounding the festival grounds on Thursday evening. According to the report about the incident on Delaware Online, a festival-goer wandering the site’s wooded areas discovered the remains and contacted the authorities. The identity of the person whose remains were discovered is still unknown. The forensic investigation is still in its early stages, as authorities continue to investigate on the scene. You can watch a news clip about the incident below:

Fortunately for those in attendance, news of the grisly discovery was virtually unnoticed within the festival. “I’m extremely surprised,” attendee Kyla Beckvermit, an 18-year-old from Cornwall, New York, told Delaware Online, “I’m definitely concerned. It would have been nice to know.” Her friend Gabby Wheeler, a 24-year-old from Wheeler, New York, was more interested than upset by the discovery. “I watch a lot of missing people videos on YouTube,” she said. “If they said it was skeletal remains, that probably means the body has been there awhile. But it’s weird that it was so close.”

While finding human remains onsite at a music festival is obviously less than ideal, the as-of-yet unexplained death likely was not connected to the event itself.
