Gov’t Mule is back in action, returning to the road last night to kick off a seven-night run that stretches until November 5th. Mule needs no introduction, powered by the sonic force that is Warren Haynes, Matt Abts, Danny Louis and Jorgen Carlsson. Last night, they were in fine form, rocking out in a classic show that featured several guest spots from saxophonist Steve Elson.
Among the many highlights of the performance was a bust out of the Allman Brothers Band classic “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed.” Considering that the final ABB show was exactly two years earlier (10/28/14), and that Haynes was of course a member of that band for many years, the “Elizabeth Reed” song came as no surprise in the setlist. Sandwiched in the middle of “Kind Of Bird,” Haynes and co. did a great job nailing down the Allman Bros instrumental.
