Today, the commonly used hashtag #EDM was suddenly banned from Instagram. The ban blocks users from being able to search for EDM-related content using the relevant hashtag. As it turns out, the cause of the mysterious blacklisting was a correlation detected between excessive nudity and EDM.
As TIME explains, Instagram’s policies dictate that it blocks any hashtags that consistently violate their Community Guidelines. “In this case, #EDM was being used to share content that violates our guidelines around nudity,” said Instagram spokesperson Gabe Madway.
They are currently working to get the hashtag restored and planning to make their guidelines clearer to the public.
