As Jack White takes time off from the road, the talented musician has certainly not taken himself out of the public eye. After complaining about disliking half of his live performances and writing poetry, it’s nice to see White putting time into something we can all enjoy: Third Man Records

There’s no denying that White is obsessed with vinyl. More power to him, because vinyl has an audio quality that is simply unparalleled. With record sales at their highest in 20+ years, it’s no wonder that White is expanding his Third Man Records label to Detroit, his hometown.

The new Third Man Records is planning to open up for the November 27th Record Store Day, with “many special surprises in store.” Here’s a full statement from White:

“From the great visual artists like Gordon Newton to the music of the Gories, and the birth of the Detroit garage rock scene, the Corridor has nurtured Detroit’s soul and inventiveness for decades. That spirit pushes forward with Shinola’s passion and will come full circle for the artists of the Corridor that work with Third Man Records to plant a new foundation there to help keep that creative spirit alive for decades to come.”

White teamed up with Shinola, the upscale bicycle and watch retailer, and purchased the property where the Shinola flagship store is located. The area, Cass Corridor, is where White played his first-ever concert, and has been an inspiration to White throughout the years.
