New Star Wars Character ‘Ello Asty’ Is An Homage To The Beastie Boys

JJ Abrams has never been shy about his love for iconic hip hop group The Beastie Boys. The famed director used “Sabotage” in the recent Star Trek movie, but as Consequence of Sound points out, he’s taken his Beastie Boy fandom to the next level with Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

As a new list of Star Wars characters has been revealed, one of them will be named Ello Asty, which is essentially the Beastie Boys’ 1998 album, Hello Nasty, with the first letters chopped off.

Not only that, but see the letters on Asty’s helmet below? Translated from the made-up Aurebesh language, the words read: “Born To Ill”. Last time we checked, the Beastie Boys were Licensed to Ill back in 1986.

Let’s hope Ello Asty knows when to get ill.
