After scouring Kurt Cobain’s archives for the HBO documentary Montage of Heck, filmmaker Brett Morgen found a number of home recordings and plans to release them as an album this summer. We previously got a taste (albeit brief) of Cobain’s rendition of The Beatles’ “And I Love Her,” which is just one of many recordings planned for the album release.
Talking about the new album, Morgen said “it’s going to really surprise people.” He continued, saying that the album “will feel like you’re kind of hanging out with Kurt Cobain on a hot summer day in Olympia, Washington as he fiddles about.”
One final statement: “Just to be clear, it’s not a Nirvana album. It’s just Kurt and you’re going to hear him do things you never expected to come out of him.” Meanwhile, Montage of Heck is set to premiere on HBO tomorrow, May 4th. Listen to “And I Love Her” below:
