The driver sped through the checkpoint, and was being pursued, when he headed the opposite direction down a one-way street, and ultimately wound up crashing through temporary barracades and into a crowd of civilians.

The crowd was assembled at The Mohawk, an Austin music venue that was hosting numerous SXSW concerts. At the time, people were waiting to see Tyler, the Creator.

The suspect was tased and apprehended, and will be charged with two counts of capital murder and 23 counts of aggravated assault.

Several graphic photos and messages were uploaded to Twitter and Instagram, just moments after the unfortunate event. Simon Collins, music editor of The West Australian, tweeted: “Walked out of Mohawk at 12.30 a.m. to discover chaos on Red River Rd – people bleeding, people helping their friends, crying.”

Chaos indeed. Very tragic.
