Last night, Grateful Dead bass legend Phil Lesh hosted a Phil Lesh & Friends performance at Terrapin Crossroads. Not only was the show free (!), but the band welcomed vocalist Nicki Bluhm to add some sensational vocals to the concert.

The full band included Grahame Lesh, Scott Law, Ross James, Jason Crosby, and Alex Koford – seasoned veterans of the San Rafael, CA venue owned and operated by Lesh. The group started off with a “Help On The Way > Slipknot!” that found its way into “Shakedown Street.” The show included a cover of Crosby Stills Nash & Young’s “Ohio,” a song written in honor of the shootings at Kent State University. Yesterday was the 46th anniversary of that tragic day in American history.

The majority of the show also featured Nicki Bluhm, who joined in for “Desperado” and lent her hand on songs like “The Music Never Stopped,” Scott Law’s “Leave the Leavin’ Up To You,” “Eyes Of The World,” “Ohio,” and the encore “U.S. Blues.” Watch “Desperado” and “The Music Never Stopped,” thanks to nowiknowuryder, below:
