The North Mississippi Allstars, comprised of brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson, have been gracing audiences with their southern-fried blues-rock for more than two decades. While out on the road last year touring in celebration of their 20th anniversary, the Dickinson brothers stopped off at studios in music-rich cities like Memphish, New Orleans, and several others to periodically record their upcoming LP, Prayer For Peace, due out June 2nd, 2017.
In addition to a selection of new originals, the album contains a nod to one of the band’s early mentors, Mississippi blues elder statesman R.L. Burnside. Today, the band stoked anticipation for Prayers For Peace with the premiere of two singles from the new album: title track “Prayers For Peace” and their heartfelt cover of Burnside’s “Long Haired Doney.”
“R.L. Burnside gave me my break and took me on the road in 1997, teaching me the ropes and his repertoire,” guitarist Luther Dickinson told Rolling Stone. “Playing music and hanging out with R.L. and his band, Kenny Brown and Cedric Burnside, was a life-changing experience and gave me a wealth of memories: conversations, jokes and songs that have still inspire me and teach me.”
The new album features guest appearances from Oteil Burbridge (bass, Dead & Company), Grahame Lesh (guitar, Midnight North, The Terrapin Family Band), Sharisse Norman (vocals), Dominic Davis (bass, Jack White), and singer/fife player Shardé Thomas. You can pre-order Prayer For Peace here.
