Ever wish to make up some college credits by taking a summer course on your favorite band? For Phish fans at Oregon State University, this option is being presented to students. The college is offering an online summer course titled Philosophy School of Phish, and is centered around Phish’s upcoming summer tour. The class is set to use concerts as “field sites” to discover philosophy ideas in public settings.

The course also focuses on Phish‘s ideas that are “central to the history of philosophy” – touching on their lyrics, festival exhibits, public statements and imaginative investigation through artistic expression. Some expected reading material for the class includes pieces by world renowned philosophers including Nietzsche, Foucault and Segwick.

The course promises enrolled students that they will “collectively search for transformation without apocalpse” with musical and philosophical tools. Sounds like something up your alley? Inquire for more information about the course at ecampus@oregonstate.edu – and get your jam on this summer by enrolling in Philosophy School of Phish.
