After a night off, out their best stuff for a truly memorable summer performance at Aaron’s Amphitheatre at Lakewood in Atlanta, GA. Bringing songs new and old throughout, the band wasted no time getting started with a “Prince Caspian” > “No Men In No Man’s Land” combo. The latter is quickly becoming a fan and band favorite of the summer, as the Anastasio/Marshall original has a catchy refrain and potential for improvisation.

The first set also included an energetic “Ghost”, “The Wedge” and “The Moma Dance” grouping, before going into “How Many People Are You?”. Just the second time played by Phish, the punchy Mike Gordon original is sure to delight as it continues to surface in setlists.

After “Rift”, Phish played a full “Mikes > Hydrogen > Weekapaug” suite of songs to close out the first set. It was their only their second time playing “I Am Hydrogen” in the past dozen or so “Mike’s Grooves”, as various songs have filled the segue spot in recent shows, and the band delivered to perfection for an excellent set closer.

The next set started with “Kill Devil Falls”, an absolutely incredible version that stretched past the 20-minute mark with ease. This was easily the longest jam of the tour to date, considering it segued seamlessly into a free-flowing “Martian Monster” that saw the members of the band switching instruments, with Trey Anastasio on the drums, Jon Fishman on bass, and Mike Gordon on guitar. These types of interactions (including the similar ‘2 vs. 2’ jam at The Forum in Los Angeles, CA) really demonstrate the current state of affairs of Phish, as the band members seem to be tighter than ever on a personal level.

The second set was one long segue-fest, as “Twist”, “Back On The Train”, “Reba” and “Bathtub Gin” followed in succession. As a joke for the fans, Phish decided to put the post-“Reba” whistling in the middle of “Bathtub Gin”, which closed out the set. “Farmhouse” and a bolstering “Character Zero” closed out the incredible performance.

Phish continues their two-night run in Atlanta tomorrow, before heading to Tuscaloosa, AL on Sunday to wrap up a three-night run in the Southeast. Check out last night’s setlist below, courtesy of Phish.net:
