President Obama visited New Orleans, LA last Thursday, August 27th, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. The President gave a beautifully moving speech that discussed the progress of the NOLA community, and how that progress has been inspirational to the world over.

Obama said, “Because this is a city that slowly, unmistakably, together, is moving forward. Because the project of rebuilding here wasn’t just to restore the city as it had been, it was to build a city as it should be — a city where everyone, no matter what they look like, how much money they’ve got, where they come from, where they’re born has a chance to make it.”

Before taking on a more serious tone, the President offered some lighthearted commentary on the city of New Orleans. He talked about wanting a “shrimp po’boy” as soon as he got off the plane, and said, “One day, after I leave office, maybe I’ll finally hear Rebirth at the Maple Leaf on Tuesday night.”

A reference to Rebirth Brass Band’s Tuesday night residency at the Maple Leaf, Obama proved once again that he has some damn good taste in music.

Here’s the full speech, and a transcript can be found on the NOLA.com website.
