A crashed computer wasn’t going to stop NYC rapper Prince Harvey from putting out his new record. Every weekday over the course of four months, Prince secretly recorded his album at the Apple store in SoHo, using only human voices.

“It wasn’t my plan to record this at the Apple Store,” he told the Daily Beast. “First, my computer died. Then my external [hard drive] died. New York is expensive. I couldn’t just buy another laptop. I just thought, ‘I’m going to die before anyone knows I’m hot.’”

Prince befriended the store’s employees to help him with his plan. He secretly hid his files in the display computers’ trash folder so they would not get erased in the daily memory wipe.

The tracks were made using his voice as well as occasional guest vocals. He employed hums and other mouth-made sounds for the beats.

The album, appropriately titled PHATASS (Prince Harvey At The Apple Store: SoHo), will be released on July 26th. Listen to the first track, “Sometimes,” below.
