2016 has undoubtedly been a year of shocking loss in the world of musical heroes. Fans continue to mourn the unexpected losses of David Bowie, Prince, Lemmy, and too many more. With their souls gone forever from this Earth, only their personal belongings remain alongside the timeless catalogues of music left behind. Sometimes owning a piece of a hero’s life brings you closer to the hero themselves, at least according to some fans.

Over the weekend, the owner of Jerry Garcia’s ‘Tiger’ guitar bought Prince’s ‘Yellow Cloud’ guitar for a shocking $137,500. At the same auction in Los Angeles, one super Bowie fan purchased an actual lock of his hair for $18,750. The hair was legit, cut from Bowie’s head in 1983 while he was being fitted for the Madam Tussauds Wax Museum. The strands came from a wig maker who created the hair that would go atop the wax-man’s body. She kept them in a picture frame, with a picture of herself standing next to the Thin White Duke, for thirty-three years. Check out the full listing here.
