Marcus Haney describes his documentary No Camera’s Allowed as “a love letter written to these festivals.” This twenty-something year old began his journey after sneaking into Coachella, and has never paid for a ticket to a music festival since. Over the course of four years Marcus has snuck into almost 50 festivals around the world, including Bonnaroo and Glastonbury, and even managed to make his way into The Grammys. He documents these events through photography and video footage, getting backstage access along the way. However, Marcus is no amature to photography, he shoots for HBO and films music videos, but decided creating this film was more worthwhile, leaving college and his home to document this adventure.

After Coachella, Marcus created a short film with his footage and managed to get it to the members of Mumford and Sons, who were so impressed that they invited him on tour. It was at this point that Marcus had to choose between graduating college or getting on that train with the band.

He chose the train.

Marcus made fast friends with the members of Mumford, even shooting their album cover for Babel.

When asked if he felt bad about getting access to these festivals–including getting on stage, backstage and front row center–Marcus replied: “The first thing I think about is – I’m not hurting anyone. But am I stealing anything? Am I stealing a ticket or opportunity for Coachella to make money? Well no, Coachella is sold out. And then I start to think – is there any way I’m able to twist this and make it feel like I’m helping the situation? The trailer makes the film out to be about a guy sneaking into festivals but it’s really a coming of age story set in a music world.”

No Cameras Allowed has been picked up by MTV, with the description reading: “NO CAMERAS ALLOWED is a documentary that literally takes you behind-the-scenes and inside the twenty-something life of die-hard music fan Marcus Haney, who risks his friends and his college life to expertly slip into festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury and into the backstage lives of superstars like Mumford and Sons, Skrillex and Jay Z.”

The question is, is Marcus an outrageously epic young man or has he gone too far by breaking into these events?
