Plans have been unveiled for a new 7,500-capacity, south Denver concert venue, Levitt Pavilion Denver, to be opened in July of 2017. Located in the underutilized corridor of Denver’s Ruby Hill Park, the new venue is planning to host 50 FREE concerts a year, plus a number of additional shows scheduled by outside promoters, and will boast a 1,500-square-foot stage flanked by a “customizable ‘canvas’ backdrop unique to each performer,” according to a statement. “The stage platform is oriented to take full advantage of the natural bowl, offering spectators peak viewing and acoustical experiences from a wide-range of locations.”

Designed by architectural firm Studiotrope Design Collective, the new venue is being backed by the Los Angeles-based benefactors Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, and will become the seventh venue funded by the foundation. They have alternate venues located in Los Angeles and Pasadena, CA; Arlington, TX; Memphis, TN; Bethlehem, PA; and Westport, CT. Additionally, the new Levitt Pallion Denver is being pursued through a partnership with the city and county of Denver, which has committed $2 million from the Better Denver Bond Program.

Currently underway is a fundraising effort for the venue with a goal of $4 million in private and public funds. Thus far, the Levitt foundation has donated $400,000 in seed money, the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation late last year awarded a $100,000 grant for the project, and the Boettcher Foundation gave $150,000. So far they’ve been able to collect $3.1 million so things are on the up and up for the new Mile High City venue!
