This is why we love New Orleans.

On Tuesday evening, Stevie Wonder brought his Songs in the Key of Life tour down to NOLA. The show was attended by a whole plethora of local celebrities and musicians. The following night was Stevie’s day off so he returned the favor by attending a local show at Sweet Lorraine’s featuring members of his band as well as Bill Summers, Donald Harrison Jr., Eric Benny Bloom, Kendrick Marshall and Chris Severin. Mr. Wonderful walked in during “Tell Me Something Good” (which Wonder wrote) as Bloom was beginning his trumpet solo.

Bloom explained, “When Stevie walked in the room and sat down in front of the bandstand, I was onstage about to play a solo on ‘Tell Me Something Good’ and they cut me off and broke the band down to introduce Stevie. Then they introduced me and let me play the 1st solo for Stevie. He was doing his head shaking thing to some of the things that I was playing for him and the people. It was killin. Later on he did play harmonica and sing a bit over ‘Do I Do’ which I was playing on…I’m probably not getting the call for the gig though!”

Later on in the evening he played harmonica on a tune and sang a bit over an instrumental version of “Do I Do.”
