One of the premier Lighting Directors in the live concert business, STS9‘s Saxton Waller, will be leaving the band to pursue new endeavors, according to a post on the group’s Facebook page.

Saxton Waller has been part of the band for a long time, from growing up with some of the members, to eventually going on to create some of the best live visual experiences around with the group. When you think about the lights at shows, the names that come to mind are Chris Kuroda (Phish), Jefferson Waful (Umphrey’s McGee), Johnny R. Goode (The Disco Biscuits), and Saxton Waller.

When you go see live music, the band is clearly the main reason you attend the show. However, there is so much that goes into each performance, between production, venue staff, sound engineers, and so on and so forth. Lighting Director is one of those intangible assets that help to create the vibe, energy, and atmosphere at any live show. And if you have ever been to an STS9 show, the light show is a major part of the incredible experience.

It looks like Waller’s crew chief Tiberius Benson will be taking over behind the boards, and it goes without saying that he has some seriously big shoes to fill. Thanks for the great times, Saxton!

Here is the message STS9 posted on their Facebook page:

To all our friends, family, and the STS9 Community: As some of you may have heard, our lighting designer and dear friend Saxton Waller will be stepping away from our live shows to pursue new creative opportunities.
Some of us have known Saxton since we were kids in elementary school. We grew up going to shows and playing music together. Saxton has been lighting the way from front of house for us for many amazing years. We will all miss him out on the road with us, but his legacy and work with STS9 will live on.
Thank you, Saxton! Your passion and dedication to your art is inspiring. We’re excited for you, your new endeavors, and look forward to working together in the future.
Love you brother,
STS9
