Pianist Holly Bowling, perhaps best known for her piano transcription of Phish’s 37-minute “Tweezer” jam from Tahoe on 7/31/13, is planning the release of her debut album, Distillation of a Dream.

Speaking about the album, Bowling said “I started doing these arrangements and transcriptions for myself, sort of as a hobby, because I really enjoyed it. When I performed them live though, I realized other people really loved hearing their favorite Phish songs and jams transformed into solo piano works. I was getting a lot of requests from people wanting to download a recording, but I didn’t have any good quality audio to offer up. So I decided to record this album.”

Bowling is trained in classical piano, but has attended nearly 300 Phish shows. For her, Distillation of a Dream is the union of her musical abilities and interests, and something totally unique was borne from the process.

The album will be a two disc collection, with the first focusing on Phish’s songwriting and the second on Phish’s improvisation, including the infamous “Tahoe Tweezer” composition.

Bowling is optimistic about the project. “I think it would be really amazing if Distillation of a Dream influenced people who listen to Phish to expand their musical tastes into some of the solo piano music out there… and on the other side, for people who listen to classical music and would never dream of going to a Phish show to hear the band’s music in a different setting and maybe fall in love with the incredible music and compositions that this band has created.”

You can pre-order the album via PledgeMusic, and your contribution includes an Access Pass to videos of the transcription process, of the studio recording process, and updates about the album’s progress.
