The Revivalists hit New Orleans last Friday, February 5th, playing an exciting hometown show at the House of Blues. The band is in fine form after releasing their acclaimed Men Amongst Mountains last year, continuing to bring their soul-drenched rock and roll to enthusiastic crowds everywhere.

One highlight from the show came in the form of a new song, “Bowie,” which was written as a tribute to the late David Bowie. Featuring a verse sung by saxophonist Rob Ingraham, the new tune certainly brought an emotional touch to the performance.

Thanks to YouTube user Christina Pellis, we have fan-shot footage of “Bowie” to share below:

Songwriter David Shaw told us about his inspiration for “Bowie,” saying “I had been seeing quite a few people covering his material which is great, but I thought…hmmmm… I think I’d like to write a song for him. It just seemed like the right thing to do (especially when honoring such a creative genius).” He continues, “I brought Rob [Ingraham] in on the song as a writer because I know he’s a Bowie fanatic and could bring an interesting perspective and realness to the song and story. And he did just that!”

Check out the full lyrics from the song:

The mother of danger
Is in us all
We’re hanging on the edge
Inside your crystal ball
The life of a rebel
With a world to sell
The star of the story
No one could tell
You walked in
And set stage
All your pretty pretty colors
Lit the way
Just like those minnow
You hooked us up
Have us a song to sing
And said good luck
Everyone wants to be just like you
Everyone wants to do the the things you do
Everyone wants to be alive
In the stars
Maybe some day there’ll be life on mars
Bolted beautiful and strange
Fell to Earth from far away
Never let them put you in a cage
Shed your skin, chamelon, your colors always change
From the man in the suit to the belle of the ball
Roman candle mystery, challenge it all
From the kids in the schoolyard to the city hall
Newton’s laws seemed pretty tall
But men from Mars don’t ever fall
Everyone wants to be just like you
Everyone wants to do the the things you do
Everyone wants to be alive
In the stars
Maybe some day there’ll be life on mars
I wanted you to know
I needed you to know
Before you go
Before you go
