Ticket stubs can be a great keepsake to collect and revisit old memories from some of your favorites shows over the years. However, they’re more likely to end up in the bottom of your junk drawer than anywhere significant. Former music exec Andy Gershon decided to do something special with his near four-decade collection of paper memories.

Gershon, who has worked in the music industry for years with well-known acts like Smashing Pumpkins, Moby, and The White Stripes, saved the ticket stub of every concert he ever attended and kept them in an old shoebox. Now, those stubs serve as the basis of his artwork featured at The Castor Gallery in NYC, as part of an exhibit titled “A Personal Music Archive 1978–1994.”

The collection goes way back to when he was a teenager working at a Kansas City record store. “I miss the days of innocence and decided I could tell a story through the ticket stubs,” he said. The collection contains everything from the Grateful Dead to Blondie, Depeche Mode to The Police, chronicling how his musical tastes changed over the years.
