This Friday, August 11th, we get ready to celebrate Turkuaz drummer Michelangelo Carubba‘s third annual Birthday Bash. The show, which will take place at Brooklyn Bowl this time around, always boasts the incredible talented friends of Carubba from the greater jam and funk scene’s, along with impressive collaborations, sit-ins, and some choice song selection throughout the entire two set performance (purchase tickets here).

As per tradition, Carubba has recruited some of his closest friends and musicians to celebrate his birthday in style, including members of Snarky Puppy, Trey Anastasio Band, Allen Stone, Turkuaz, and more. Those who’ve attended in years past are familiar with the fact that this night is notoriously one of the best of the year, so don’t miss out on what’s to be the best yet.

L4LM’s own B.Getz caught up with the drummer to discuss how the birthday bash tradition began, the charitable aspect of the evening, and asking friends and other musicians that he has met over the past year to join in the festivities:

“I basically put a bunch of calls to some of my favorite people to watch play, and they all said, ‘Yes.’ It started like that and has evolved into something I love. We give the proceeds to charity when we do it. What it’s become now is sort of a reflection of my year that just passed in terms of the relationships I’ve made, the relationships I’ve nurtured, the people that I’ve played with, the music that I’ve heard and enjoyed. Also, when it comes down to song selection, people might not know the actual ins and outs, but the songs I pick are definitely a reflection of what has been going on in my life.”

Some of those names on the confirmed lineup that will join Carubba are the just announced additions of Snarky Puppy/Ghost-Note drummer Robert “Sput” Searight and Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds bassist Josh Myers, along with previously announced TAB trumpeter and vocalist Jennifer Hartswick, Allen Stone keyboardist Steveland Swatkins, Snarky Puppy members Nate Werth, Justin Stanton, Mike Maher, and Chris Bullock. The list doesn’t stop there as fellow Turkuaz brothers and sisters Craig Brodhead, Shira Elias, and Sammi Garett, and singer-songwriters Ryan Montbleau and Chris Jacobs are also on tap to make some musical magic happen on this jubilant evening. Expect an additional surprise or two to make their way on stage for the celebration. This is an annual party that you will not want to miss!
