Among the many programs that NPR has to offer, one of our favorites is the All Things considered series called Tiny Desk Concert. Some incredible musicians have been invited into the NPR studios to huddle around a tiny desk and perform, including Tedeschi Trucks Band, Trey Anastasio, Sharon Jones and more. This time, it’s Steve Kimock that gets the royal Tiny Desk treatment.

With his recently-released Last Danger of Frost, the renowned guitarist has put together a great lineup that features his son John Morgan Kimock on drums, vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Leslie Mendelson, and bassist Bobby Vega for the group known as K I M O C K. The group played three songs for the performance, the Mendelson-sung “Careless Love,” the classic instrumental “Tongue N’ Groove,” and the solo acoustic performance of “Surely This Day.”

It’s worth mentioning just how emotional Kimock’s guitar playing is when he dons the acoustic guitar. Gone are the many effects and pedals, replaced with soulful strumming and picking. Kimock is a true talent, and he shines at this Tiny Desk Concert. Enjoy:
