Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo has agreed to star in a new Fox sitcom series, DeTour. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show “tells the story of a 30-something rock star who, unable to rationalize his success and worried that he may not have the tools to repeat it, walks away from the spotlight at the height of his fame in an effort to rediscover the parts of his life he missed while he was busy becoming a massive success.”

The show was pitched by Psych creator Steve Franks, and the concept is semi-autobiographical. Cuomo attended Harvard University, dropping out and re-enrolling several times between 1995 and 2006. He eventually stepped out of the limelight eight years ago, returning to school and finishing his bachelor’s degree in English. During his tenure at Harvard, he opted to live in the dorms, was turned down for the choir, and met his wife. Not a bad college experience if you ask us.

The character in DeTour will be based on Cuomo’s experiences, but with an embellished flare. The show will be shot in a single-camera format as well. Fox has agreed to air the pilot (an agreement called a put pilot), so expect DeTour to premiere sometime this fall.
