Just a couple of years ago, comedian Will Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith finally addressed their similar appearances with a much-hyped drum duel on The Tonight Show (Watch here). What started as a friendly challenge wound up raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity.

Naturally, with such a fun way to raise money for important causes, the two reunited earlier this weekend to battle once more. In comical fashion, the two threw a “Red Hot Benefit Comedy + Music Show & Quinceanera” at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA, raising money for two groups, Cancer for College and the Silverlake Conservatory Of Music, a charity founded by RHCP’s Flea.

Not wanting to reprise the same tricks performed on The Tonight Show, Smith and Ferrell each had teams for their drum duel. Smith welcomed Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), Tommy Lee (Mötley Crüe), and Stewart Copeland (The Police), while Ferrell brought on Fred ArmisenMick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac) and the whole USC Marching Band. The event was held just outside of USC campus, where Ferrell attended.

The show also featured a performance by Devo and a closing set from the Chili Peppers themselves. The band performed “Can’t Stop,” “Otherside,” and “Californication,” before welcoming all of the drumming guests for a show-closing rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground,” a song regularly performed by RHCP.
