To say that NY-based rock fusion act TAUK is on a recent tear is a severe understatement. Currently on tour in support of their latest release, Sir Nebula, the quartet headlined Fort Collins, CO venue The Aggie Theatre for a sold-out performance that featured support from The RunniKine and Moves At Midnight.

A solid first set saw TAUK open with material from 2014’s Collisions, including “Mokuba” and “The Drop,” before turning their attention to material from Nebula. “Program Select” found the band embracing electronic elements with an initial sonic bomb drop that melted inside your ears before the group found a serious groove that makes it difficult to not get down.

Alric “A.C.” Carter definitely stood out on the evening, taking some truly beautiful leads on the keys. Matt Jalbert has quickly become an impressive lead guitarist in his own right, with tendencies that bordered on the line between prog-rock and straight up metal. There is absolutely no denying that Isaac Teel is an absolute monster behind the kit, while Charlie Dolan is clearly a student of the bass, holding down serious groove at all times.

“Rainwalk”:

“Rainwalk” is another example of a heavy groove that makes you want to dance, but at the same time headbang. A dichotomy that the gentlemen of TAUK not only embrace, but actually flourish off of. Take first set closer “Dead Signal” from 2013’s Homunculus, for example; it’s undeniably heavy, but carries with it all the elements of some serious jam.

The second set started where the first left off, with new number “Informant” delivering the message loud and clear. Being the on the road the last two weeks, you can see that the quartet is locked in and fully loaded. “Tumbler” featured slick interplay between Jalbert and Carter, while “Mindshift” was more like mind-blowing. “In The Basement Of The Alamo” ended the second set in proper fashion, before the group came back out for an encore that featured a brief interlude into a dark cover of Led Zeppelin‘s “No Quarter.”

TAUK is on a massive Fall tour that will take them through New Year’s. For more dates, check out the band’s website here.
