Playing just hours after the news broke of terrorism in Paris, Bob Weir opened last night’s Dead & Company performance with a memorable dedication to the victims of those tragic crimes against humanity. Weir’s speech preceded an emotional concert, with slowed-down songs “Tennessee Jed”, “Bird Song” and “Standing On The Moon” in the first set.

Watch the speech below:

Bob Weir took a moment to honor the lives lost in today’s tragic Paris shooting.

Set two allowed for the band to explore more, opening with “Playin In The Band” and grooving into classics like “China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider” and “Eyes Of The World”. “The Wheel” took the band out of “Space”, but it was the emotional “Black Peter” that brought a sense of heaviness to the performance.

Fortunately, the mood lifted with a gleeful “Good Lovin'” to end the set, and a heartfelt “Touch Of Grey” as an encore. In times of tragedy, we should all take a moment to cherish the good lovin’ that we have in our lives.
