There’s not many artists who can fill a club to capacity on a random Wednesday night, with a line snaking down the block and social media buzzing trying to get tickets. But when a house music legend like Carl Cox comes to town, that’s exactly what you can expect. Pandemonium.

Upon the announcement of the show, dance music fans knew they were in for a special treat. The 50+ year old DJ doesn’t come to New York often, but when he does, he throws down long sets of pure house music bliss that keeps the floor moving all night. A veteren of the festival scene, Cox’s tent at Ultra Music Festival is always one of the most talked about stages of the entire weekend. The chance to see the man in the intimate confines of Output is a little slice of heaven.

Starting at 9 and going until past 4am, Cox controlled the entire night with his finger tips, flowing musically from funky house cuts to deeper tech vibes, masterfully taking the room through a journey. In a day where dance music has been syphoned off into dozens of subgenres, its refreshing to see someone who can spin straight house music for hours and hours, while still retaining an audience’s complete attention.

As the clock ticked past four, the club finally started to empty out just a little bit, and the remaining warriors got to finish the set with some real room to dance. It was a fantastic treat for a Wednesday night.
