For the second night in a row, Terminal West sold out for Papadosio—with Saturday night’s billing supported by TAUK and Asian Teacher Factory. Arriving early, I could tell it would be a packed house—people already waiting patiently in line for doors to open. Whispers of anticipated and expected songs could be heard as the audience began to file into the venue; each individual becoming more excited for TAUK and then Papadosio to take stage.

With upbeat enthusiasm, TAUK emerged from the shadows with a high-energy cover of the popular Kill Bill theme song, “Battle Without Honor or Humanity,” originally by Japanese musician Tomoyasu Hotei, creatively filling gaps with complex, melodic phrasing from lead guitarist Matt Jalbert and keyboardist Alric Carter. Along with this first-rate cover, TAUK preformed another cover Saturday night, Radiohead’s “I Might Be Wrong” from the album Amnesiac. Alric Carter replaced what is typically Thom Yorke’s unique vocals with his fervent keyboard stylings making this an impressive rendition.

Memorable TAUK originals included, but were not limited to, “Sweet Revenge” and “Friction,” featuring rhythmic flexibility from bassist Charlie Dolan and drummer Issac Teel. By ending the set with “In the Basement of the Alamo” TAUKleft the audience asking for more tunes which Atlanta locals will receive, when TAUK joins Dōpapod on December 6th at Terminal West.

Opening their set with three songs from the 2012 album, To End the Illusion of Separation, Papadosio’s infectious passion for tribal rhythms and soaring melodies grabbed the crowd’s attention immediately. Heavy synth and guitar riffs from brothers Billy and Sam Brouse back up front men, Mike Healy on drums, Anthony Thogmartin (guitar), and bassist Robert McConnell featuring the band’s incredible chemistry that only comes with the experience of playing together.

Additionally, the most excitement the crowd displayed came from Papadosio’s performance of “All I Knew”. This highlighted the bands ability to contrast both slow and fast tempo in one ten minute long jam promoting each of the band member’s unique stylistic play. Our journey ended with an encore including “PhDeez” and “New Love” concluding another long, rewarding show at Terminal West.
