In 1996, two Washington DC area DJs named Rob Garza and Eric Hilton decided to team up and create music together. Now, more than twenty years later, their glorious collective known as Thievery Corporation has performed the world over, releasing countless hits steeped in rich melancholic grooves. With an ever-present Brazilian influence in their music, Thievery Corporation is Garza and Hilton at the foundation, with a tight-knit backing band and an awesome collection of rotating vocalists that made their presence felt throughout the career-spanning performance.

When a band such as TC celebrates its 20th anniversary, there are few places as fitting as Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The Morrison, CO venue has played host to Thievery a grand total of seven times, dating back to 2010, but the performance held last Friday, May 13th certainly carried some extra weight. The show started with Late Night Radio and Emancipator Ensemble, the full-band project of acclaimed producer Emancipator. The live show kept people engaged, as Emancipator spun some of his classic tunes and material from the newer Seven Seas album. Read the review here.

Thievery performed a full 22 song setlist, powered by a number of hits from the band’s lengthy career and one choice cover of Grateful Dead’s “Fire On The Mountain.” The set opened with The Richest Man In Babylon song “Heaven’s Gonna Burn Your Eyes,” and mixed classics from the band’s lengthy career. Material from the newest release, Saudade, came in the form of “Depth Of My Soul,” while the set featured a non-stop array of soulful grooves; the only way TC knows how to do it.

Between Thievery Corporation’s uniquely addicting music and the sold-out crowd at one of the country’s most beautiful venues, its no surprise that this show was simply incredible. Take a look below at the full twenty-two career spanning songs performed throughout the night, including the finale of “Lebanese Blonde.”
