Last month, late-night live TV institution Saturday Night Live announced that Brooklyn industrial electronic dance massive LCD Soundsystem would bring their futuristic drum circle to the storied Studio 8H at New York City’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza to serve as the musical guests for the show’s May 6th episode. Movie star Chris Pine was announced as the episode’s host.
In preparation for the episode this Saturday, Saturday Night Live has released a hilarious promo video clip featuring LCD Soundsystem’s hit “Dance Yrself Clean” from the band’s 2010 album This Is Happening. In the video, Pine and fan-favorite cast member Kate McKinnon get weird, as they get down to the LCD soundtrack, play with curling irons, dump buckets of confetti on each other, rock rubber wigs and fake pregnant bellies, and magically turn a 3-D printed SNL logo into Skittles. Watch the hilarious clip below:
LCD Soundsystem’s SNL appearance comes on the heels of their hugely successful five-night residency at Brooklyn Steel to celebrate the venue’s opening. During the Brooklyn Steel shows, the band debuted several brand new original songs, “Tonight,” “Call Police,” and “American Dream.” In response to an audience member at the opening night loudly inquiring about the whereabouts of the new album promised by frontman James Murphy when the band reunited last year, Murphy replied with his signature bashful tone–“It took a little longer than we thought it would, we’re sorry about that. But it’s almost done. We promise.”
Don’t forget to set your DVR for this Saturday night! This is an episode you surely don’ want to miss.
