On Sunday night, Tedeschi Trucks Band concluded their two-night run at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO with Hot Tuna and The Wood Brothers as part of the annual Wheels of Soul Tour. Another night of synergetic musicianship was spread across the board, with special guest performances from Widespread Panic guitarist/vocalist/frontman John Bell throughout the night. The twelve-piece powerhouse delivered an outstanding mix of originals and covers, executing their authentic interpretations of songs old and new.

With covers of Derek and the Dominos, Allen ToussaintEldmore JamesThe Rolling StonesBob DylanLeon Russell, Bobby “Blue” BlandThe Allman Brothers Band, and Blind Willie McTell, Tedeschi Trucks Band originals sprinkled through to even out a complete show of musical mastery. The set closed with “Whipping Post” and the band returned for an encore that included “Statesboro Blues,” two songs guitarist Derek Trucks has famously played many times with the Allman Brothers Band.

Hot Tuna’s Jack Casady joined the band early on in the evening for “Get Out My Life, Woman” and Jorma Kaukonen stepped in for “The Sky Is Crying.” The Wood Brothers joined the party for “Sweet Virginia,” a cover debuted earlier on this tour and executed beautifully with the vocals of Oliver Wood. The evening’s special guest joined for “Down Along The Cove,” “Dark End,” and “Delta Lady,” proving why John Bell is a perfect addition to any cast of characters. Diversified by the covers of Bob Dylan, Leon Russell, and Southern classic “Dark End of the Street,” Bell put the cherry on top of an already outstanding band.
