When guitarist Joe Marcinek puts a band together for short runs and shows–like last weekend’s Funk Fest Punta Gorda in Punta Gorda, FL–he does not fool around. The fretboard wizard had a quartet of fiery players to back up his own guitar pyrotechnics, tapping String Cheese Incident/EOTO percussionist Jason Haan, Freekbass, Particle’s Steve Molitz and sax man Meesta Juanjamon for his Saturday set at the festival. After a windy pre-party set, Marcinek and company welcomed a packed crowd to the Saturday festival with a fun mix of originals, covers and even a special, unannounced guest.

We’ve got a trio of special highlight clips from Joe’s set, including Sammi Garett of Turkuaz’s special guest spot during a super funky cover of David Bowie‘s “Fame,” which descended into sing-a-long madness. There’s also a disco-infused rendition of the Grateful Dead classic “Shakedown Street” and a fun original, entitled “Sofa”. Check out the tunes below:

Joe Marcinek and company joined a fantastic lineup of funk acts both new and old over the course of two days in sunny Punta Gorda. Other artists on the 2018 bill included Tower of Power, Blackberry Smoke, Turkuaz, The Soul Rebels, Here Come The Mummies, Broccoli Samurai, Wild Adriatic, Resinated, Band of Heathens, Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes, Voodoo Visionary, Gang of Thieves, and Reverend Barry & The Funk.
