Last night, Michigan rock outfit Greta Van Fleet made their Saturday Night Live debut, performing two songs, as well as getting roasted by comedian Colin Jost. Last month, the quartet was nominated for four Grammy Awards, including “Best Rock Album”, “Best Rock Song”, “Best Rock Performance”, and “Best New Artist”.
Ahead of the upcoming award show, Greta Van Fleet brought the first live musical performance of 2019 to Studio 8H, first working through “Black Smoke Rising”, the title-track off of their 2017 debut EP. The four-piece then worked through “You’re The One”, the second single from their first full-length album, Anthem of the Peaceful Army, released in October.
The band was also mentioned on SNL’s “Weekend Update” segment, where Colin Jost trolled the band, comparing them to an upcoming lunar eclipse. “Sunday night will bring a Super Blood Wolf Moon, which is a rare lunar eclipse, and not, as I had assumed, the name of the band that just performed on our show,” teased Jost.
