Brooklyn-based nine-piece funk outfit Turkuaz has shared pro-shot video of a rare David Byrne-filled segue from a recent performance.
In April, Turkuaz offered up a performance at Burlington, VT’s Higher Ground as part of their 2019 spring tour. The band—comprised of Dave Brandwein (guitar/vocals), Taylor Shell (bass), Craig Brodhead (guitar/synths), Michelangelo Carubba (drums), Greg Sanderson (saxophone), Joshua Schwartz (saxophone/vocals), Chris Brouwers (trumpet/keyboard), Sammi Garett (vocals/percussion), and Shira Elias (vocals)—worked through a cover of David Byrne’s “Big Business”, which segued into Turkuaz’s “Murder Face” off of their 2015 Digitonium LP.
Turkuaz frontman Dave Brandwein shared his thoughts on the obscure cover. He explained,
Taylor and I discovered this obscure song in the outtakes of our favorite film, ‘Stop Making Sense’ (Talking Heads) year’s ago. We never understood why it got cut from the movie, but all the more reason to play it. We decided to mash it up with our song “Murder Face,” and we think it’s a match made in heaven! (or hell??).Â
