James Taylor will release his first-ever memoir early next year, but fans shouldn’t plan on reading it as a traditional book.

Announced late last week, Taylor’s Break Shot will be a spoken-word-based memoir set to arrive exclusively via Audible sometime in early 2020. The interviews for the audio project were conducted alongside music journalist Bill Flanagan at Taylor’s Massachusetts recording studio, known as “The Barn.”

“I’ve known Bill Flanagan and admired his writing forever,” Taylor mentioned in a statement shared to his Facebook. “So I was happy and relieved that he had agreed to help me gather my thoughts and edit this autobiography of my beginnings, the on-ramp to the road I’ve traveled ever since. A pitcher needs a catcher and a funny and intelligent collaborator can make you seem likewise. To the best of my recollection, I never had much of a memory; but here’s how I remember it… Did I say that already?”

According to reports, topics Taylor and Flanagan discussed for the memoir range from the singer-songwriter’s childhood to his rise to stardom in the 1970s. Various songs from Taylor’s acclaimed catalog will also be mixed into the narrative to create a complete listening experience for fans.

Taylor’s next performance is scheduled for December 9th with his appearance at “The Concert For The Rainforest Fund” benefit show at New York City’s The Beacon Theatre. Taylor is also set to release a follow-up studio effort to 2015’s Before This World sometime early next year as well.
