Genre-bending sextet Lettuce has shared the brand new video for their 2019 single, “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”. The funk band’s take on the 1985 new wave hit appeared on their recent studio album, 2019’s Elevate

The video for Lettuce’s jazzy take on the Tears for Fears original features a global perspective that seeks to highlight the durability of the human spirit. As the video jumps around while examining a day in the life of people from all over the world, the downtempo soul-psych instrumental builds to a crescendo as keyboardist Nigel Hall proclaims, “Everybody wants to rule the world,” while the commonality of all humanity is displayed through our most mundane moments.

“With greed and self-absorption taking a center seat in the society we live in,” the band said about their new video in a statement shared via press release. “Lettuce wanted to put out a song and video that portrays the power and plight of the real human heart and the strength that comes from regular and consistent support that is only found in tight communities and family style living.”
