In his latest attempt to remain young and hip, Will Smith has revisited his hip-hop roots with a playlist of lo-fi beats to keep fans entertained and focused while staying at home under quarantine.
Shared late last month, Smith’s “Chill Beats To Quarantine To” 90-minute playlist shared to his YouTube is themed around those popular study playlists comprised of simple, low-fidelity instrumental hip-hop tracks which feature drum machines joined by synths and light, jazz-inspired guitar work played atop animated video loops. As Live For Live Music’s Michael Broerman recently noted, the popular YouTube playlists offer just enough music to know that there is actually something playing, without really paying attention to it.

Smith and his business associate Miguel Melendez oversaw the creation of the playlist, which features tracks from producers including Guustavv, Justnormal, Jobii, Henyao, and Dylan Sitts to name a few. While the playlist is a contrast to the high-energy house party style of hip-hop which he was professionally known in his days as The Fresh Prince.
