Turkuaz Share 2019 Tipitina's Performance In 'Jazz Fest Rewind' [Watch]

Turkuaz has shared a full show, pro-shot video of the band’s performance at Tipitina’s during 2019’s New Orleans Jazz And Heritage Festival.

Last night, the festival would have been gearing up for its final weekend. Originally scheduled for April 23rd–May 3rd, organizers initially postponed the event back in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. After a month, the outlook on large gatherings in 2020 remained bleak, forcing Jazz Fest to cancel this year’s event and look forward to 2021.

In an effort to pay tribute to one of the country’s most unique social experiences, Turkuaz and nugs.tv rebroadcasted the band’s late-night set from May 3rd, 2019, dubbing it “Jazz Fest Rewind.” The set contained some of Turkuaz’s most popular songs, like “Bubba Slide” and “Superstatic”, as well as some older cuts, like “20 Dollar Bill”, from the band’s 2011 self-titled album. The funkified nonet also mixed in a few covers throughout the set, including Sly & the Family Stone‘s “Babies Makin’ Babies”, The Who‘s “Eminence Front”, Al Green‘s “Take Me To The River”, and an encore of Marvin Gaye‘s “Baby Don’t You Do It”. While the show streamed for free on Facebook, the band did request that viewers donate to the Tip-It Foundation, New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic, and Tipitina’s—which all need support now, more than ever.
