NYC-based indie-soul outfit Melt returns today with its first new single since 2021, “Fade Into You”. Buoyed by anthemic guitar riffs, bouncing bass, soft, swelling keys, heavenly horn punches, and enveloping layers of backing vocals, the new offering is a stylistic throwback to the lush, dreamy soundscapes of ’80s Prince.
Engineered by Alex Poeppel at Dimension 70 and Kenseltown East, mixed by Michael H. Brauer, and mastered by Alex DeTurk—the quintet finds a new sweet spot between pop sensibility and performance-ready instrumentation on “Fade Into You”.
Melt—comprised of Marlo Shankweiler (guitar), Veronica Stewart-Frommer (lead vocals), Eric Gabriel (keys, vocals), Lucas Saur (bass), and Nick Sare (saxophone)—recorded the new track in pieces over the course of a couple months. Explains Gabriel, whose warm lead vocals on the track fade in seamlessly with Stewart-Frommer’s textured embellishments, “Even as we slowed down the recording process, it was important for us to capture the energy and feeling of our live shows.”
After notching a viral breakthrough with “Sour Candy” while they were still in high school, the members of Melt have spent the past five years at different colleges, building a dedicated fanbase and uniting to play shows on weekends. Now out of school, the band has been steadily notching notable festival appearances including breakout slots at 2022’s The Peach Music Festival and Levitate Music Festival.
