Trey Anastasio and the Divided Sky Foundation on Thursday announced that renovations on the new substance use disorder treatment center they are opening in Ludlow, VT are officially in progress. The center is projected to open by the middle of next year.
The facility was funded in large part via the Phish guitarist’s eight-night pandemic livestream series from New York’s Beacon Theatre, 2020’s The Beacon Jams, which raised more than $1 million for the cause. As the foundation noted in a social media post that was later shared via Anastasio’s accounts,
We are excited to announce that renovations have begun on The Divided Sky Residential Recovery Program in Ludlow! Having finally cleared our permitting hurdles, we have begun making improvements to the building including adding an elevator and other ADA accommodations, creating meeting spaces, adding some new flooring, and a fresh coat of paint. The facility is expected to open by mid-2023.
The Divided Sky Residential Recovery program will be an educational 501(c)3 nonprofit recovery retreat dedicated to providing supportive, informative, and compassionate programming to individuals and their families affected by addiction.

Back in April of 2021, the Divided Sky Foundation (DSF) announced that it had purchased a facility in Ludlow, VT for the planned treatment center and shared a few photos of Anastasio and clinical director Melanie Gulde‘s visit to the site. Soon after, the treatment center’s progress hit some snags as the nonprofit, an arm of Phish’s WaterWheel Foundation, grappled with local residents and the Vermont Superior Court Environmental Division over obtaining the required change-of-use permit for the building.

In the meantime, the foundation helped strengthen its relationship with the local community with its first-ever Divided Sky Foundation Fun(d) Run, which raised an additional $25,000. Proceeds from the event will support the efforts of the DSF as well as existing Turning Point centers in Springfield and Rutland, VT.
