By this point you’ve probably heard that Thom Yorke (of Radiohead fame) has pulled his music from the popular music-streaming site Spotify (and if you haven’t, view the article here). Now Spotify has issued a statement responding to Yorke’s actions and criticisms of the site.
A spokesperson for Spotify, in an interview with Music Week, has said the following on the matter:
Spotify’s goal is to grow a service which people love, ultimately want to pay for, and which will provide the financial support to the music industry necessary to invest in new talent and music. We’re 100% committed to making Spotify the most artist-friendly music service possible, and are constantly talking to artists and managers about how Spotify can help build their careers.
Via twitter both Yorke and Nigel Godrich (Yorke’s bandmate in Atoms for Peace whose most recent album Amok was pulled from Spotify) vented their opinions to their followers.
Make no mistake new artists you discover on #Spotify will no get paid. meanwhile shareholders will shortly being rolling in it. Simples.
