After recently forging a connection with the members of Phish, who jokingly gifted him a blender in response to his viral post about the band’s Sphere run, Drew Carey resurfaced to continue the bit with Mike Gordon at Teragram Ballroom in L.A.
The Phish/Drew Carey saga began back in April when the Price Is Right host shared a glowing but graphic review of his experience seeing Phish in Las Vegas.
“I swear I just talked to God,” he began before adding that he “would give you all my money, stick my dick in a blender and swear off pussy for the rest of my life in exchange for this.”
The surprisingly candid post made an impression not only on fans but on the band, who cheekily responded by sending him a Vitamix blender along with a personal note.
On Friday, Carey took the joke a step further when he appeared on stage at Mike Gordon’s show in L.A. At the end of the first set, during “Tiny Little World”, Gordon produced a blender and raised it up to the microphone. Carey then danced onto the stage and searched his pockets, pulling out a vegan sausage, which he tossed into the whirring appliance.
In addition to the Drew Carey blender hijinks, Mike Gordon’s weekend run also featured the first-ever live performance of the song “Human Nature”—the only track off Phish’s forthcoming album Evolve that neither the band nor any of its members had ever played live. The bassist/bandleader debuted the song on Thursday at Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, CA and played it again in L.A. on Friday as well as during his sets opening for Vampire Weekend on Saturday and Sunday at Berkeley’s Greek Theatre. Check out fan-shot footage of the song’s debut along with photos from Friday night below.
