Charleston, South Carolina-based synthwave “sexy-tet” Doom Flamingo will go on “an indefinite break” following the band’s upcoming shows in Richmond, Asheville, and Charleston.

“Doom family,” the band wrote in an announcement posted to social media. “We would like let you know that following our next shows in Richmond, Asheville, and Charleston we are taking an indefinite break.”

The message to fans continued, “We want to collectively extend our deepest gratitude to the fans and community that have supported us while we take some time to focus on ourselves. You are the ones that make it all happen for us and we appreciate you so much. We will be finishing out the rest of the year as a five piece without our saxophonist Mike Quinn.”

Formed in 2018, Doom Flamingo initially came together when bassist Ryan Stasik needed an act to play an after-party for his other band, Umphrey’s McGee, and called on saxophonist Mike Quinn to help assemble some of Charleston’s finest. With powerhouse vocalist Kinika Moore fronting the band alongside keyboardist Ross Bogan, drummer Stu White, and guitarist Thomas Kenney, the outfit quickly gained a following in Charleston and went on to develop a national fanbase through extensive touring.

“While we say this with heavy hearts,” Doom Flamingo told fans, “our shows recently have felt like some of our best and we are excited to leave it all on the stage for you for these last few. Sometimes the best way to move forward is to take a step back.”

Though disappointing for fans, this announcement does not come as a complete surprise after recent posts from Moore seemed to indicate tensions within the band. Nonetheless, the band will be sorely missed as its members figure out their next chapters both as individuals and as a collective.

Doom Flamingo will hit the stage tonight at The National in Richmond, VA before playing the band’s final shows (for now at least) at The Orange Peel in Asheville on December 27th and Charleston Pour House on December 30th and 31st, which will mark the group’s first proper New Year’s run.
