“For so many of us, Dad’s gift to the world was music,” Duane Betts said in a statement. “I’m so happy to come together with some very special friends to honor the depth and beauty of his life and, of course, to share that sweet, melodic sound he is so well known for.”

Dickey Betts passed away on April 18th, 2024 at the age of 80 after serving as the bedrock of the Allman Brothers Band’s sound for over 30 years. The iconic mustached guitarist whose bravado occasionally boiled over into brashness was a vital ingredient in the development of what became known as “Southern rock.” After Duane Allman‘s tragic motorcycle accident in 1971, Betts stepped up as a leader of the band and penned some of its most successful and enduring songs, including its only Top 10 hit “Ramblin’ Man”.
“I’ve had a great life and I don’t have any complaints,” Dickey told Rolling Stone in 2017. “I don’t know what I would’ve done to make it different. There are lawsuits I probably could have dealt with better. But so what? You do the best with your amount of time.”
