Eggy kicked off its Here And How 2025 winter tour last week with a pair of performances in Michigan. Wednesday’s tour opener in Ann Arbor and Thursday’s show in Grand Rapids both saw the rising Connecticut jam quartet add to its songbook with a Tom Petty cover and two new Eggy originals.

The tour started on Wednesday at The Blind Pig in Ann Arbor with Eggy’s first show since an annual two-night stand at Tree House Brewing Company in early January. Shaking the frost, Eggy hit the ground running with a “Wayless” opener that transitioned seamlessly into “Rosetta Stone” for a thrilling 20-minute sequence to start the show. Eggy’s first debut came at the end of the first set with “Trixieville“, a jaunty barrelhouse piano tune with vocals by keyboardist Dani Battat. In the second set, Eggy focused on deep jamming, ultimately turning in a three-song frame highlighted by a half-hour “Backyard Bear” plus a 15-minute rip on Little Feat‘s “Skin it Back”. “Backyard Bear” contained teases of The Disco Biscuits‘ “Portal To An Empty Head” in a nod to guitarist Jake Brownstein‘s work in the Brownstein Family Band alongside The Biscuits’ Marc Brownstein.

The next night, Eggy traveled to the other side of the Mitten for a show at The Stache. The single-set performance featuring opener Seven Foot Blonde caught fire quickly from the “Woah There” opener (a.k.a. “Woahpener”). As opposed to Wednesday’s jam-heavy affair, Eggy switched strategies to a song-focused approach, rattling off concise takes on “Nearly Always Late” and Emily King‘s “Remind Me” before diving deep on a 17-minute “Buying Time”.

Coming out of the longtime live favorite, Eggy transitioned into its debut of Tom Petty classic “You Don’t Know How It Feels”. Battat took vocals on the Wildflowers standout, while his organ swells dutifully recreated the song’s iconic harmonica intro. The band still wasn’t done with the preceding “Buying Time”, however, briefly reprising the song before bringing it back once again to “You Don’t Know How It Feels” for some sort of four-piece jam club sandwich. Eggy still had another debut in store, putting powerful punctuation on the single-set performance with the unveiling of new original “Shatter”, another Battat slow burner that the band took for a climactic 19-minute ride.
