Ever wonder what Tupac Shakur‘s final words were?  “Fuck you.”

In an interview with Vegas Seven, Chris Carroll, a now retired sergeant in the Las Vegas Police Department, revealed the rapper’s final words after being shot in a drive-by incident.

“He looked at me, and he took a breath to get the words out, and he opened his mouth,” Carroll said. “And then the words came out: ‘Fuck you.’”

Shakur was shot and killed on the night of Sept. 7, 1996 after attending a Mike Tyson fight in Las Vegas, NV. Shakur and his bodyguards got into a fight with Orlando Anderson, a member of the Crips.  After they drove away, a white Cadillac pulled up beside Shakur and Suge Knight, the Death Row Records CEO, and a gunman opened fire from the backseat.

Carroll tells his whole story in the interview. As the first officer to arrive on the scene of Shakur’s murder, Carroll witnessed the aftermath of the shots sustained by Shakur, including a vivid description of the rapper’s gold jewelry soaked in blood. Even in his dying moments, Shakur managed to curse out a police officer.

Carroll is coming out with this information now, eighteen years after the event, mainly because he recently retired. He also wants to set the record straight – namely that the iconic rapper used his last bit of life to insult an officer of the law. While Carroll may feel that revealing this story will serve to villianize Shakur, in reality, well, it may serve the opposite purpose.
