Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue teamed up with Tank and the Bangas over the weekend for two nights at the historic Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY.
The two New Orleans bands are on the road together this month sharing the vibrant sounds of NOLA with fans across the U.S. on Trombone Shorty’s Shorty Gras tour, which kicked off in Burlington, VT on Thursday (two days after Mardi Gras).
Though both hail from the Big Easy, each group has its own distinctive flavor, with Tank and the Bangas leaning toward R&B, soul, and hip-hop, while Trombone Shorty and his krewe offer a modern twist on the traditional New Orleans brass band with elements of funk and psychedelic rock, making for a dynamic pairing that perfectly embodies both the city’s rich musical heritage and the wide-ranging artistry it has produced.
The bands celebrated their shared roots at The Cap on Friday and Saturday with a festive mix of brass and soul, showcasing their mutual respect and admiration through cross-pollinating collaborations.
