Neil Young will release his first studio album with his new band The Chrome Hearts on June 12th when Talkin to the Trees arrives via Other Shoe/Reprise. The album confirmation arrived alongside the second single, “Let’s Roll Again”.

Young and The Chrome Hearts previously debuted “Let’s Roll Again” live at Stephen Stills‘ Light Up The Blues benefit concert late last month. The new track made headlines for Young calling out Tesla and owner Elon Musk, singing “If you’re a fascist, then get a Tesla.” Examining the song as a whole, “Let’s Roll Again” is a call for all Americans to adopt electric cars—and for U.S. car manufacturers to make that more feasible. Set to the tune of Woody Guthrie‘s “This Land is Your Land”, Young howls, “Come on Ford, come on GM / Come on America, let’s roll again,” amid a raggedy wash of jangling, distorted guitars.

The Chrome Hearts features guitarist Micah Nelson (a.k.a. Particle Kid), bassist Corey McCormick, drummer Anthony LoGerfo, and organist Spooner Oldham. Several members come from Promise of the Real, Lukas Nelson’s temporarily dormant backing band, who also served a stint as Young’s band from 2014 to 2019. After abruptly canceling his 2024 tour with Crazy Horse midway through, Young introduced The Chrome Hearts during a brief set at Farm Aid in September. A two-night run at The Capitol Theatre immediately followed, and in January, they released their debut single “big change” days ahead of Donald Trump‘s presidential inauguration.
